It is from Rancho Zabaco, which is just another way to market Gallo wines. Gallo was once the bad boys of California wine, producing jug wine for the masses and fighting with labour unions is now producing lots of quality wines.

Dancing Bull Zinfandel is the lightest of the Zin that they make. It is 13.95 and can be found in a lot of restaurant for under $30. It does not have the bright fruits flavour that great Zin has, in fact it seams a touch green but that is what you get for $14.

Not a bad pour for a weeknight. Sorry, no screw cap on this one.

Fetzer Vineyards Valley Oaks Merlot

Is California the ultimate Merlot region, maybe? When you crave a Merlot, your looking for something soft, plush and plummy. The Fetzer Vineyards Valley Oaks Merlot is that in a under 15 dollars version. Light to medium body, no tanning, could use a bit more fruit, but totally ready to drink. This wine is an OK value.

No more corks!!!!!!!!!!

As you can see from the title, I'm not a big fan of corks in wine bottles. If one in twelve cans of tuna were bad, you would stop buying tuna. That is not the case in the wine world where one in twelve bottle are bad because of cork taint. We still insist on buying wine with an ancient seal on them because some wine snob says we should.

I say, “Let’s dump the snobs and the corks”

Cheers,

screwcap
